Eden Rochelle

My name is Eden and I am a small business owner in the Traverse City area, where I have resided all my life. I moved to Traverse City in 2012 after graduating from Elk Rapids High School and have worked many jobs within the realm of the service industry. From bartending to turning a side hobby into a full-time gig as a nail technician, I graduated college and opened my own business this past September. I spend my time enjoying all that Michigan’s seasons have to offer – boating, snowshoeing, visiting wineries and hiking, especially so when my Boston Terrier can tag along!

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
My current career came into fruition this past September, when I went off on my own as an independent nail technician. I really enjoy creating art on a daily basis and learning new things in the process. However, it is most rewarding to be able to connect with the community through my services, as it has gifted me many great relationships.

Q: What is your favorite book?
As double major in criminal justice and psychology, I enjoy reading about the mind and how this connects to the things that shape us. One of my favorites is “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel van der Kolk.

Q: What are some of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love Red Ginger, The Tasting Room, Taproot and Stella.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community? What brought you to Grand Traverse County?
Having grown up in the Torch Lake area, I always knew I wanted to live in a more populated area with a richer variety of opportunity. I have lived and worked within the community for 11 years.

Q: What advice would you give to people who want to visit our community?
Visit at various times of the year! Traverse City offers many seasonal events that have since become annual staples in my life.

Q: If you could choose anyone today with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you all meet?
I would love to have lunch with Lady Gaga because I really admire her values and opinions on social issues within the world. A local spot I would choose to meet would be Brew.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love the close-knit feel of Traverse City. As a service provider, I run into clients nearly everywhere I go and I love that! You can really tell our city thrives on a foundation rooted in customer service and I notice this most when visiting other cities.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Though I am left-handed, I have become quite ambidextrous through my line of work and doing my own nails.

Q: Which yearly event in Grand Traverse County do you enjoy best?
With having so many great restaurants in the area, I have to go with Restaurant Week!

Q: What is your favorite season in Northern Michigan? And what is your favorite activity to do in that season?
Hands down, FALL! I most look forward to driving the tunnel of trees, visiting Pond Hill Farm and celebrating Halloween.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Nature, connection, peace
