My name is Michelle Reed. I’m a Marriage and Family Therapist, trained in EMDR, and treat trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and relationships. I am originally from California, but now live in Traverse City treating clients at Rebel Therapy Group.
Q: Please tell us about yourself.
I’m a very creative person and I apply that to everything I do.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
My favorite part of what I do is witnessing another person, who they are, their story, and watching them come alive more and more as they heal.
Q: What is your favorite book?
Anything by Joan Didion, Vladimir Nabokov, or Eve Babitz.
Q: What are some of your favorite restaurants in our community?
The Cooks’ House for a nice evening, Mama Lu’s for the chips and guac, and The Little Fleet in the summer.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community? What brought you to Grand Traverse County?
I moved here during the pandemic. I wanted to live here ever since visiting and thinking it reminded me of a miniature San Diego.
Q: What advice would you give to people who want to visit our community?
Visit in the summer and make sure to take a walk along the water. A long walk through the downtown neighborhoods is really nice in the evening too.
Q: If you could choose anyone today with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you all meet?
Grimes. I love her music, but also she seems super brilliant, and I love how herself she is. I’d just like to pick her brain on all kinds of things and hear her thoughts. If we met for lunch I’d suggest Mundos because a good coffee feels necessary for this conversation.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love the water! I’m a beach girl at heart. What’s unique is how we have the beach and downtown so close together. I love that!
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I was sent to art school for both middle and high school. I studied all sorts of art forms, but the main one was ballet.
Q: Which yearly event in Grand Traverse County do you enjoy best?
The National Cherry Festival. I’d never had an elephant ear before moving to Michigan and now I look forward to it every year.
Q: What is your favorite season in Northern Michigan? And what is your favorite activity to do in that season?
Summer. I love being able to go on a long walk in summer while everything is in bloom. The nature and plant life in Traverse City is heavenly and I love to immerse myself in it.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Security, family, and love.
