Karen Browne

I have been engaged in Credit Union’s since the late 80’s and moved to Traverse City in 1991 when I started my career at TBA Credit Union, being names CEO in 2007. I have served on many non-profit boards over the years, including the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement. I am currently the Board President of Michael’s Place, Board Treasurer of the Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center, Treasurer of the Paul Bunyan Chapter of the Michigan Credit Union League and a member of the Economic Club of Travers City.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I am married to my high school sweetheart (Charlie) and together we have raised 3 children and are now blessed with 2 grandson’s and another grandchild coming March 2021. We reside on many acres where we enjoy time outdoors with our family, horses and raising cattle.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I love servicing the community and building trusted relationships.

Centre Street Cafe, North Peak, Stella’s

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community? What brought you to Grand Traverse County?
31 years ago we were attracted to Traverse City from frequent visits and decided it was where we wanted to raise a family.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Ireland, to explore it’s beauty and culture.

The Blind Side

Q: What advice would you give to people who want to visit our community?
Take time to enjoy the beauty as if you are vacationing

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Instill faith in my grandchildren and great grandchildren someday.

Q: What current or former local business makes you feel the most nostalgic about our community?
TBA Credit Union as it was founded by a group of educators putting cash and IOU’s in a cigar box to help each other out.

Q: If you could choose anyone today with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you all meet for this lunch?*
My son, because he left this world 9 years ago at age 16. We would order take out and eat outdoors enjoying the beauty of the woods and water.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
You can experience a little of everything from hiking and boating to fine wine and dining.

Sedona and the Grand Canyon, Arizona

June, Christmas, December 25th.

My Credit Union colleagues and Jesus

Q: What is your favorite season in Northern Michigan? And what is your favorite activity to do in those seasons?
Spring. I enjoy the renewal of life, the joy of sunshine and fresh air after a long winter.
