Bethany Poineau

I was born and raised in Traverse City, and have lived here the majority of my life. I am a mom to one son and many fur babies. My husband and I am building out dream home on the east side of Traverse City currently. I enjoy anything outdoors, especially on the water, traveling, and drinking wine. I have always been drawn to Traverse City because of the different seasons and how there is always something new to do on the water, in the snow or in the woods. There are always new people to meet and new hobbies to learn.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I have worked in the food and beverage industry for the past 13 years. I started as a waitress and banquet server at Great Wolf lodge and then moved onto many restaurants in traverse city such as Flapjack Shack, Omelette Shoppe, Northpeak and then landed my first full time management position with Jolly Pumpkin, which I was with for about 5-6 years. After finishing my Bachelors degree at Davenport University I decided it was time for a change and took a position as the Tasting Room Manager at Bowers Harbor Vineyards which I have held for the past 2.5 years joyfully. The wine industry has taught me so much about agriculture and been able to provide me with the ability to grow new friendships and relationships and allowed me more time with my family. The wine industry is always changing and always allows for growth and learning and challenges that I have always wanted in a career.

Q: What advice would you give to people who want to visit our community?
The weather is unpredictable, don’t expect it to go as planned. Theirs is always something to do so don’t over plan. A trip here is better as a go with the flow rather than an itinerary. Life is meant to be a ride not a structured plan.&

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Our community is always looking for different ways to give back to one another, and I know every one says that probably but Traverse City is just different about how they do it. The amount of support TC shows to each other and surrounding is just outpouring.

Q: Which yearly event in Grand Traverse County do you enjoy best?
Suds and snow

Q: What is your favorite season in Northern Michigan? And what is your favorite activity to do in that season?
Fall, There’s like a 2 week period where the weather is perfect to do almost all the activities Traverse City has to offer. It’s gorgeous with the leaves change and it’s still warm but the holidays are right around the corner. It just feels peaceful.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Comfort, bonfires, beaches
