Alyssa Olmstead

Hi! My name is Alyssa Olmstead and I consider myself lucky to be a northern Michigan native. I am the owner/LMT at Be Here Now Massage. I graduated from massage school in 2019, and have now branched into working for myself.

Q: Please tell us about yourself.
I take advantage of our limited warm weather and spend most day offs at the beach. I also love disc golfing with my boyfriend and our not so little Doberman.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I love that my job is about improving someone’s wellbeing. I go to work, and problem solve. Being a massage therapist is more mentally exhausting than anything else, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’ve received hugs from my clients after a massage and I’ve heard sighs of relief. Expressing gratitude goes a long way and it’s what keeps me going, personally.

Q: What is your favorite book?
My favorite book is Be Here Now by Ram Dass

Q: What are some of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love this question…but I love Amical more. Olive twists ftw!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community? What brought you to Grand Traverse County?
I’ve had my own massage practice for officially a month, but I have worked in this community for about 2 years. I thought to venture out elsewhere until met my boyfriend. His business is here as well!

Q: What advice would you give to people who want to visit our community?
Come in the fall, it’s more relaxed and just as beautiful.

Q: If you could choose anyone today with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you all meet?
My good friend Hannah. We have monthly coffee dates at Mundos, and we’re overdo for one. We have so much to catch up on!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Yen Yoga, they’re a community in itself. That place and the people are so comforting.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I planned to be a nurse but quickly changed career paths.

Q: Which yearly event in Grand Traverse County do you enjoy best?
Ladies night downtown!

Q: What is your favorite season in Northern Michigan? And what is your favorite activity to do in that season?
Summer…and most definitely having a beach day out in maple city with some sandwiches from Dockside Market.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Warmth. Laughter. Togetherness
