Joel Strehl

I am a blessed father to two beautiful children, Gray and Olivia. Professionally, I am a general, trauma and critical care surgeon. I specialize in robotic surgery as well as endocrine surgery. I also own an aesthetic medical business.
Apart from work and spending time with my children, I love to spend my time outside. I enjoying hunting in the fall, snowboarding in the winter, as well as biking, running and paddle boarding whenever I can.
I landed in Traverse City 4 years ago after 16 years of training took me all over the country. I love being part of this great community–the outdoors, the passion for an active life style, along with the great restaurants have made this an ideal location for me.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have an 11 year old daughter and 8 year old son

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am a general, trauma and critical care surgeon employed by Munson Medical Center. What I love most about my career is the fact that I am able to help people and make a difference in their lives everyday.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community? What brought you to Grand Traverse County?
Lived in TC for 4.5 years. Moved here to start my career as a surgeon

 

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
New Zeeland–I love outdoor adventures and the scenery seems breathtaking

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Seinfeld–by far

Q: What advice would you give to people who want to visit our community?
Get out and enjoy the natural beauty of Northern Michigan during all times of the year.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Travel to Everest

 

Q: If you could choose anyone today with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you all meet for this lunch?*
I would chose to have lunch with my entire extended family–As I have matured, I realize that family is everything and there is no one I’d rather spend my time with. Lunch on the patio at West End Tavern sounds lovely.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love that our community is so active and embraces all that Northern Michigan has to offer outdoors.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
A community leader and respected, successful member of the medical community.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’ve always wanted to become a Sommelier

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Scotland

Q: Favorite month? Favorite holiday? and the best single day on the calendar?
Favorite Month is June. Favorite holiday is Christmas. Best day on the calendar is June 14–my birthday and usually the weather is just right in Northern Michigan

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
I have many people in my live that inspire me to be better. My patients, colleagues, parents, friends and my children all motivate me to be a better provider, father and person.

Q: What is your favorite season in Northern Michigan? And what is your favorite activity to do in those seasons?
Summer- Paddleboard, Road and Mountain Bike, Hike as well as golf.

Safe, Comfortable and Warm
